A Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc) in Dialysis Technology is a three-year undergraduate program that teaches students the technical and clinical skills needed to work in dialysis: Technical skills Students learn to operate and maintain dialysis equipment, sterilize and sanitize equipment, and dispose of waste. Clinical skills Students learn about patient care and safety protocols, and how to collect blood and test body fluids. Medical knowledge Students learn about the basic medical science of the kidney, fluid and electrolyte balance, hematologic aspects, infectious diseases, and blood chemistry. Dialysis procedures Students learn about dialysis procedures, including hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Dialysis unit management Students learn how to manage dialysis units. After completing the program, graduates can work in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and dialysis centers.
